Note: The site policies set out below are based on the standard privacy policy as included with the website software (WordPress). It has yet to be fully adapted for this site and parts of it may not be relevant here.
Our policies for privacy and the use of cookies are those used by our host site, specifically that this website does not make any undeclared use of cookies or information derived therefrom. However, be aware that the underlying software and our ISP may place cookies for their own purposes; we have no control over cookies placed by them. [See note on cookies below]

Who we are

The website manager is Steve Humphreys, email steveh@roafan.org
Our website address is: https://roaf.org/sth.
This is an interim hosting arrangement and does not imply any endorsement of this website’s contents by RoAF.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We do not collect personal data other than the name of any contributors, including those who reply or comment; this is used to provide an accreditation to the author of any items that we publish.
The website software (WordPress) will collect the name, email address and, optionally, the website of those who leave feedback or replies to articles. There is a policy statement below on how this information is used.

Replies and Comments

When visitors leave replies or comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Please refer to the house rules for comments below before adding replies or comments to articles on this site.

House Rules for Comments

  1. The site manager reserves the right to remove any comments which, in his opinion, break the house rules or are offensive, confrontational or otherwise unacceptable within the context of this website.
  2. Comments must be polite and respectful of other people’s points of view, even when disagreeing with them.
  3. Comments should be relevant to the article to which they are attached.
  4. Comments should be succinct – lengthy arguments loose the attention of the reader.
  5. Comments may include quotations but they must be correctly accredited – use a ‘url’ reference in preference to long quotations.
  6. Comments cannot include graphics, photos, etc. Give a ‘url’ reference and a brief description of the illustration instead.
  7. Comments must not be of an advertising nature. Reference may be made to products or services but only in the context of the writer’s own experience.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. The Gravatar service is not enabled on this site.

Contact forms

We do not use contact forms on this site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site might include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Product Endorsements

The mention of any product, service or activity on this site does not imply any endorsement of that product, service or activity. Such mentions are intended for the reader’s convenience only.

Who we share your data with

The management of this website has a policy of not releasing contact information to third parties.
Any third party requests for contact details will be referred to the person being sought, for them to respond directly to the enquirer as they wish.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. This is integral to the site construction software and we do not retain any data arising from it.
We do not disclose digital date to third parties, except when there is a legal obligation to do so.

Your contact information

Contact details for authors and other contributors to this site are not available to third parties. Requests for such information should be addressed to the webmaster who may, at his discretion, pass the request on to the person being sought.
